Letter of Recommendation

It gives me immense pleasure in recommending Mr. XYZ for the graduate program at your University. I have known him for almost three years during his undergraduate studies at department of Mechanical Engineering, BITS-Pilani. I have also instructed him in two courses, “Applied thermodynamics” in his 4th semester and “Finite Element Methods” in his 7th semester. I have observed his work in close quarters during this period.

 

I found him very sincere and attentive in my class and he possesses the inquisitiveness to learn new concepts. He has good knowledge of the fundamental concepts and approaches the problems with professional interest. Aman was one of the best students in a class of about 80 students who did the course “Applies thermodynamics”. He was one of the toppers of this course. Consequently, he secured an “A” in this course. Grade “A” is highest grade in BITS setup. His method of approaching a problem shows an intuitive mind that is clear and logical.

 

“Finite Element Methods” is a Master’s degree course that I used to offer at BITS. Aman was the only undergraduate student who took up this course. Despite his accident which thwarted his class work for about one month, He scored an “A” in this course which is quite impressive. Such a performance indicates his highly competent mathematical aptitude. Higher mathematics, including advanced calculus, is key to this course and he excelled at it. Further, this course was not a degree requirement he had taken this course out of his interest as an overload. This reflects his zealous and committed attitude towards academics. Before taking this course, he had presented a paper on “FEA in estimating thermal power rating of gears: a steady state thermal analysis” during APOGEE -2008(it’s a national level technical week organized annually at BITS).

 

I have had many occasions to observe his communication ability and strongly state that his command over the English language, both written as well as spoken, is excellent. He is capable of expressing his ideas fluently in a lucid manner which is coruscated in the seminars and presentations that he has given. Thus making him an ideal candidate for graduate studies.

 

Having observed him in various capacities, I would place him in the topmost layer of the students I have met during my teaching career. I am sure XYZ will excel in field of his choice. He also has a proven worth for the Graduate research. Therefore I strongly recommend him for admission to the graduate program at your university with full financial aid.
